Dresser Wayne’s Automatic Temperature Compensation Technology Delivers Fuel Purchasing Consistency
MALMÖ, SWEDEN (30.06 2007) – Dresser Wayne is applying its proven technology leadership to address the common issue of varying fuel volumes caused by temperature fluctuations. The company’s newly announced Automatic Temperature Compensator (ATC) system, a modular electronic device option for Dresser Wayne fuel dispensers, ensures that customers receive the exact amount of petrol and diesel for which they have paid regardless of its temperature at the time it is dispensed. Fuel retailers have increased control over their inventory which translates to higher revenue generation, and consumers enjoy greater fuel purchasing consistency.
The Automatic Temperature Compensator measures the temperature of petroleum products during delivery and automatically computes the volume according to a 15˚ reference temperature, a long-standing international standard for the fuel industry. As a result, purchasers receive the same amount of petrol energy per litre despite temperature-induced volume fluctuations. In addition, the sale display shows the temperature-compensated price and volume for an easy-to-understand, smooth transaction.
“Fuel retailers use temperature compensation when purchasing their petrol and diesel inventories, but before now the technology was not available to apply the practice to customers on the forecourt. Dresser Wayne ATC technology now makes it possible to use a compensated litre from the beginning to the end of the distribution chain,” says Nicola Marchesi EMEA Product Manager. “One of the greatest advantages is simpler inventory reconciliation for fuel retailers. As a result, they have more control over their inventory and how much is dispensed.”
Dresser Wayne ATC systems are designed for easy deployment in existing fueling environments. It is available as a factory-supplied modular option for petrol dispensers and can be easily retrofitted onto pumps that utilize the Dresser Wayne iGEM electronics module and either the iMeter™ or Xflo™ fuel meter. ATC systems can be customized to retailers’ dispenser configurations as well as varying fuel types and densities. “Temperature compensation is already a recommended practice for Compressed Natural Gas and Liquefied Petroleum Gas,” Marchesi says. “We are now expanding the benefits of this method to our retail customers and their consumers to guarantee fuel purchasing equity.”
